DEFUNDING PLANNED PARENTHOOD OPPOSED BY MOST AMERICANS

Posted: 7/29/11 04:58 PM ET

WASHINGTON -- Six states -- Texas, Indiana , North Carolina, Wisconsin, New Hampshire and Kansas -- have defunded Planned Parenthood during the 2011 legislative sessions because some of its clinics provide abortions,

but several recent polls suggest that a majority of American voters oppose cutting off funds to the family planning provider. READ more....

Rules should follow small fishermen!!!

“Is the government destroying fisheries in order to save them?”

Read more about what is going on in the name of saving the fish and then listen to this fisherman who knows what he’s talking about…

“It's time to put the small fishermen first, and stop treating them like the pariahs of the high seas. Acknowledge that overfishing is part of the problem, but recognize that the fishermen are the ones with the highest personal stake in the future health of our fisheries. If fishermen can begin working with regulators in the spirit of mutual sustainability, and abandon the battle of wills with regulators, American fisheries can survive -- and might even begin to thrive again.” By TOM GOGOLA Published: July 29, 2011 6:06 PM

Entitlement? I PAID cash for my Social Security insurance! Our benefits aren’t some kind of charity or handout! Congressional benefits—premium federal health care, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days—now THAT’S welfare! And they have the nerve to call my retirement an entitlement! Repost if you are sick of their crap.

Riddle of the vanishing Neanderthals finally solved... they were overrun by modern humans...

I don’t agree.  I think the answer is more simple than that.  If one only looks at the last three hundred years it is obvious that the Western Europeans, English, Spanish, Dutch, etc. are psychologically programmed to invade continents, take  over the less developed communities by trickery and force, subjugate the populous and replace them in the land.

The English did this with impunity to the Americas, India, Africa, and Australia.   If they did this in the last tree hundred years why not before that?

Delayed Social Security Payments … Would Cause Disaster

Editorial Huffington Post…7/29/11 12:24 PM ET Updated: 7/29/11 05:13 PM ET

“There are about 54.8 million Americans who receive some form of Social Security benefits each month, according to government data (see Table 2). Most payments are made to retirees, disabled individuals and certain dependent children and adults. The first of next month's payments are due Aug. 3. Another 15 million Americans are also due veterans' benefits, federal or postal employee retirement benefits and other payments beginning on that date.

For a substantial share of the people who receive Social Security benefits, that income is essential. About 40 percent of all unmarried individuals who receive social security benefits rely on the program for at least 90 percent of their income, the Social Security Administration's inspector general found in a November 2010 report. About 90 percent of women over age 80 derive nearly all of their income from Social Security benefits.” Read more…

Arrivederci, Water Profiteers

The world is watching and how we have to safeguard our precious resources.

by Daniel Moss : posted Jul 22, 2011

"Why 96 percent of Italian voters rejected their government’s push for water privatization.  “Water—whether we treat it as a public good or as a commodity that can be bought and sold—will in large part determine whether our future is peaceful or perilous,” wrote the scholar Maude Barlow.

In Italy last month, an overwhelming number of people (96 percent of the 57 percent of the population that voted) cast their ballots for a peaceful future based on shared ownership of water.

The referendum overturned a law passed by Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s government, which would have encouraged private companies to buy up public water utilities and guaranteed them a profit on their investment, opening the door to rate hikes."  Read  more

6 BIGGEST LIES ABOUT THE US DEBT

The 6 Biggest Lies About the U.S. Debt ( I FOUND 10)

“There is one simple truth about the discussion of the looming U.S. debt crisis: it is largely a compendium of half-truths, distortions, myths and outright lies.”

This is my take on the article… I found the six quoted below and then some more…. read the entire article and see what you come up with…

*1. For example, is it true that the U.S. debt is unsustainable, which is spurring the budget-cutting fever? No and here’s why…

*2. Or what about hysterical headlines like “U.S. Debt Default Looms” (courtesy of NPR) unless Democrats and Republicans agree to raise the debt ceiling?

*3. One blatant lie is that Republicans and Democrats, the Congress and the White House are serious about reining in budget deficits to reduce the long-term debt. They are not.

*4. If you really believe shrinking the debt is an imperative, then there are easier ways to do it then stealing grandma’s meds

*5. Of course, the stand-off is based on another lie: that Congress and Obama administration can enforce cuts over a 10-year period. The budget process is an annual exercise.

*6. “We are in recovery.” So says Ben Bernanke – since 2009 no less. Obama has been saying the same since 2010, while hedging that it is “painfully slow.” Really?

These are the ones I found in the article:

*7. We are being led to think the wisest course is repeating the major mistake of the Great Depression – enforcing austerity in a deep economic funk.

*8. Obama’s burnt offering – will nick a miniscule 3 percent off the national debt by 2020, while the suffering will be enormous. But we must do it to appease the markets.

**9. But, it [S&P] warned, any “credible” agreement “would require support from leaders of both political parties.”

**10. S&P knew … By saying both parties needed to sign on to an agreement to be credible, … the Republican agenda of strangling the last of social welfare would triumph.

And by issuing the statement in the heat of negotiations, it threw its lot in with the Tea Party mob. [KOCH influence]

(** Re-paragraphing, numbering [inserts] underlining, are all my addition.)

MESSAGE FROM BERNIE SANDERS...

“The American people have consistently stated, in poll after poll, that they want the wealthy and large corporations to pay their fair share of taxes and they want to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. In a recent Washington Post poll, 72 percent said Americans earning more than $250,000 a year should pay more in taxes.  Congress is on track to give them the exact opposite: major cuts in the most important programs that the middle class needs and wants, and no sacrifice from the wealthy and the powerful.”

Taxes, the Debt Would Vanish IF

If Corporations and the Rich Paid 1960s-Level Taxes!  We now have a Plutocracy as we did in the late 1800s and early 1900s:By Sam Pizzigati, Campaign for America's Future
Posted on July 24, 2011, Printed on July 29, 2011
"Once upon a time in America, back a century ago, our nation's rich paid virtually nothing in taxes to the federal government. And that same federal government did virtually nothing to better the lives of average Americans.

But those average Americans would do battle, over the next half century, to rein in the rich and the corporations that made them ever richer. And that struggle would prove remarkably successful. By the 1950s, America's rich and the corporations they ran were paying significant chunks of their annual incomes in taxes — and the federal projects and programs these taxes helped finance were actually improving average American lives."  This is an assault on the American worker.  Read more...

David Koch, [son of founder of John Birch Society and] chairman of the Americans For Prosperity Foundation, and founder of its sibling political-organizing group, simply called Americans For Prosperity.”

IS THE MASTER'S THE NEW BACHELOR'S?

You may want to think about this before ending your education with a Bachelor's Degree... It may not be enough.
When hiring, L. Georgianna, in charge of employee development at Welch Allyn, confirms that given two otherwise equal résumés, the master’s wins. A master’s degree “doesn’t guarantee that someone will be much more successful,” she says. “It says that this person is committed and dedicated to the work and has committed to the deep dive. It gives you further assurance that this is something they have thought about and want."

HAIL MARY PASS AROUND CONGRESS' BUDGET BLOCKADE

"The escape hatch nobody, [is talking about]  coin seignorage... based on Title 31 of the U.S. code, ... authorizes Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner to “mint and issue platinum bullion coins and proof platinum coins in accordance with such specifications, designs, varieties, quantities, denominations, and inscriptions as the Secretary, in the Secretary’s discretion, may prescribe from time to time.”  ...

"Geithner could order the mint to manufacture a couple of trillion-dollar platinum coins and swap them for public debt now held by the Federal Reserve. The coins, unlike the bonds held by the Fed, don't count as debt, so the transaction would bring us $2 trillion below the debt ceiling and the manufactured “crisis” would be averted."

The Real Cost of Doing Nothing!

Deteriorating Transportation Infrastructure Could Cost America $3.1 Trillion

"engineers... the cost of failing to invest more in the nation's roads and bridges would total $3.1 trillion in lost GDP growth by 2020. For workers, the toll of investing only at current levels would be equally daunting: 877,000 jobs would also be lost. Already, the report found, deficient and deteriorating surface transportation cost us $130 billion in 2010."

Wonderful discussion

This is a wonderful talk, discussion, on why one should not to eat animals…

Should the President invoke the 14th Ammendment? You be the judge...

Obams can at any time invoke the 14th Amendment!  Do you think he should?
Section 4 of the 14th Amendment states: “The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payments of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.” Essentially, Democrats are arguing that since the "public debt" cannot be questioned, then the debt ceiling itself is unconstitutional.

Last Day of School, A Farewell

Ah-ha! The last day of school was today. Hurray!!! Hurray!!!

Now to get to all the papers due, collected, corrected and turned in to my respective professors.  That is my challenge now. This is more work in the next week than all semester long, but it has to be done and I have to psych myself out to perform this daunting task.

My first class I will miss terribly for the professor is the same age as my youngest son and loves the same things as I do, gardening, the out of doors, writing, traveling, Italy, and of course Literature—and did I say, reading and writing.

Hmm, yes, he would have been a good son to have. I always wanted someone like that in my world.  But the ones I have are really good too, just different.  They are so modern, so computer driven, so mechanical minded or carpenter driven—just not my world but certainly fill out my deficits.  I wouldn’t trade them for the world—they are good to me and try hard to help when needed.

But this isn’t about my wonderful children but about the children from school—they are the ones who I will miss the most.  The boy, next to me, twenty-seven years old and the nicest kid you could find, Jericho, and Joo, aka, Lucia, a young Korean, twenty-five year old girl, who is returning to Korea to visit her parents for the summer and return to the States—I’ll miss her too.  I’ve become quite fond of her and then there are others, the vivacious Laura Pescatore, the wonderful, Andy, Mark and …. The always pleasant Mike Hann and the Dwyer boys, the lovely Megan who looks like Botticelli’s Venus and the lovely Laura who the boys drool over, Mung who says I have given her courage and thinks I’m wonderful because I speak up,  the others who are so numerous but essential to our class the ones who played guitar and sang lovely songs to us and our cantankerous professor who turned eighty today.  I’ll miss them all. I have tears in my eyes—they are going to be sooo missed.  But that is the way of the world.

I have found that there are times where a class comes together and becomes a community.  It just jells and becomes one organism, one group dependent on each other and no one more important than anyone else.

There have been a few classes like that in my life and will never be forgotten; this is one of them. I’m happy that I was able to be part of this one— the young men have restored my faith in all men.  The ones coming up in this world will lead and they will change it for the next generation, a kinder gentler nation, no rough and tumble Cowboys stuff, but kind sensitive and loving young men of whose parents will be proud; and the women will be comfortable in their own skin and not have to fight for equality but will bring about the fulfillment of our revolution and all women will be proud of them.

Yes, I have hope, as this class closes I see them entering the world and will change it for the good.

And so to hit the books; I leave you,

Facebook 'Instant personalization' launches: How to disable it, and why

By Zack Whittaker | February 2, 2011, 11:18am PST

Summary

Facebook’s instant personalization feature becomes available today. But to avoid your data being handed over to partner websites, here’s a quick tip in how to disable the feature entirely.

Link to the full article:  http://www.zdnet.com/blog/igeneration/facebook-instant-personalization-launches-how-to-disable-it-and-why/8006

Zack Whittaker

Zack Whittaker  Zack Whittaker started playing with computers before he could even tie his shoelaces; although that skill wasn't discovered until he was 10. Amongst many things, he is a good-for-nothing, pink sock wearing, British student at the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK working towards a BA (Hons) Criminology and Social Policy.
In between studying, drinking, and occasionally sleeping, he works with researchers studying neurological illnesses like Tourette's syndrome (of which he suffers from), and gives talks and lectures on disabilities.

He grew up in "Robin Hood Country" in Nottinghamshire, UK for the best part of his life, but still heads there on occasion to see his ever-supporting and loving family, godchildren and his friends. Although due to his age he may seem inexperienced and misguided, but he's already totalled up many years of work, education, knowledge and general (mis)adventure.

Facebook’s ‘instant personalization’ feature is to be switched on today, allowing the walls between the social network and the world to be broken through for a seamless experience for all.

While many have not been able to access the instant personalisation feature yet, it turns on today. More worryingly, it is turned on by default so many will be entirely unaware the feature even exists.

However, this raises serious privacy concerns amongst the 500 million and growing population of the social network, with the potential for better targeted adverts and more of your data handed out to other websites. Information that is set or has been set to ‘Everyone’ may have already been copied elsewhere.

How it works

Provided you are logged into Facebook, certain websites like Pandora and Bing can ‘personalise’ their sites with data provided from your account. Any information which is set to ‘Everyone’, like your name or your birthday can be used to make the website appear more friendly and tuned in.

Only certain sites can access this, and permissions need to be granted to do this. However, to be on the safe side, it is better simply to turn it off completely.

How to turn it off

1. Log into Facebook. In the top right hand corner, click Account, and then Privacy Settings.
2. Under the heading Apps and websites, select Edit your settings.
3. Under the heading Instant personalization, select Edit settings. You may see a popup called ‘Understanding instant personalization’. Just hit Close.
4. At the very bottom of the page, simply untick the box labeled Enable instant personalization on partner websites. This will instantly turn off partner websites accessing your data.
If, however, the option is greyed out but still ticked, this means that Facebook has not yet activated instant personalization just yet. It takes time. Check back in a few hours, or the next day.

What next?

From there, it is also advised that you check out the latest revision of the Definitive Facebook Lockdown Guide (shameless plug, I know) to ensure that as much information on your profile is restricted, allowing nobody outside of your friends list can access your information.
